The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Eastern Naval Command (ENC), Rear Admiral CD Okehie, on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, commissioned the remodelled and renovated Barracks Maintenance Unit (BMU) Calabar Administrative Block and a 25-Bed Arrival Hall at Nigerian Navy Barracks, Atimbo, Cross River State.
The projects underscore the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to improving infrastructure, enhancing administrative efficiency and promoting personnel welfare, in line with the Chief of the Naval Staff’s Strategic Directive 2026–7, which prioritises human capital development and the well-being of personnel as essential to sustaining a motivated, professional and mission-ready force.
In his welcome remarks, the Commanding Officer, BMU Calabar, Captain H Ali, expressed appreciation to the FOC for his support and contributions towards the successful completion of the projects.
In his address, Rear Admiral CD Okehie emphasised the importance of leaving a positive and lasting impact wherever personnel are posted, urging them to make meaningful contributions to the development of their respective units. He also highlighted the importance of teamwork, staff welfare and collective responsibility in achieving organisational goals.
The commissioning further reflects the FOC’s four leadership pillars for ENC: professionalism, operational readiness, welfare of personnel, synergy and collaboration. These principles reinforce the Command’s commitment to operational effectiveness and the provision of a conducive working and living environment for personnel.
In attendance were the Commandant, Navak War College Nigeria, Rear Admiral Ma Muye; and other senior officers of ENC.
The commissioning marks another step towards strengthening administrative capacity and improving the welfare of Nigerian Navy personnel.
